A native spirit ceremony in memory of Rose Emmish Foote will be offered at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 9th at the camp site where rose spent her summers in Pillsbury State Park. All are welcome to attend.
Rose Emmish Foote Born 2/28/1907 in Vicksburg Mississippi. She was one of the first camp fire girls in Mississippi and fell in love with the outdoors then. In 1938 she moved to Mass. to attend college and decided to move to NH in 1939 where she met and married her husband Allen Foote in 1940. In 1962 Rose and Allen visited Pillsbury State Park, it was love at first site. Rose and Allen camped at Pillsbury every summer from then on. They did volunteer work on an ongoing basis at the park. Allen died around 1994. Rose continued to camp at Pillsbury and
to volunteer her help working in the office, walking the trails and letting
park staff know what was going on with them.
Her favorite activity was kayaking every morning, keeping
watch over the loons and there babies and reporting on activities of the
otters. Rose would be the first person in line at the gate opening day and
would leave when the loons left.
Rose also was a great story teller and had wonderful stories of the wild
life and the people that have visited Pillsbury over the years.
Rose Passed on 10/08/04. Since that time her site in Pillsbury Park has been closed for use. It is planned by the Park and the support group, Friends of Pillsbury State Park, to dedicate the site to be used for campers with disabilities. |
